What are flamenco palmas?

In flamenco, palmas are a rhythmic accompaniment, and at the same time, a tool to set the beat, create atmosphere and intensify the emotion of the music and the dance.

The clapping sound is emitted by tapping the fingers of one hand on the palm of the other hand, making both palms sound.

Types of palms

There are different types of palmas depending on the flamenco style. Each has its own rhythm and structure, and learning to master them will allow you to actively participate in this art.

Jerónimo Utrilla is a renowned flamenco artist and teacher with an extensive career. Jerónimo Utrilla is a guitarist, palmero and flamenco teacher with extensive experience in shows and teaching palmas and compás at European festivals. He has also taught workshops at important festivals such as the Festival de Jerez and the Bienal de Sevilla. D. student at the Complutense University, he has published didactic works on flamenco and created “Soniquete App”, a very innovative application to rehearse choreographies and flamenco rhythms.

In his flamenco clapping workshop, Jerónimo teaches the technique and seeks to make each participant connect with the emotion of flamenco, making this learning experience unique.
