<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Flamenco <\/span><b>is a Spanish musical genre that developed in Andalusia, combining singing, dancing, and musical accompaniment<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, making it a truly complete experience. <\/span> <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to combining different artistic styles, flamenco dancers typically wear traditional flamenco costumes, such as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/flamencomalaga.com\/en\/blog\/flamenco-shoes-what-are-they-like-and-where-to-buy-them\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">flamenco shoes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (essential for heel tapping) or <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/flamencomalaga.com\/en\/blog\/these-are-the-most-used-flamenca-flowers-and-how-to-wear-them\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">flamenco flowers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span> <\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The History of Flamenco and its Origins<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although <\/span><b>flamenco, as we know it, originated in Andalusia and dates back to the 18th century<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, its beginnings are not 100% known, as it is a mixture of art from different cultures that coexisted in Andalusia several centuries ago. <\/span> <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While it&#8217;s true that the culture most associated with flamenco dance is the Gypsy culture, this art draws from different communities, as <\/span><b>flamenco singing combines<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Traditional music and Andalusian folk songs. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gregorian chants from Jewish synagogues.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Arabic sounds.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">African rhythms. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the other hand, it&#8217;s important to note that <\/span><b>flamenco was born as a form of singing meant to express deep emotions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, because if you&#8217;ve had the fortune to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/flamencomalaga.com\/en\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">visit a flamenco tablao<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, you will have felt in your own skin the intensity that permeates the air, which is incomparable to any other place.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Over the years, the singing was combined with dance and the sounds of different instruments<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">; and, just as it happened with the songs, the dance became a fusion of different traditions, combining traditional dances from various Spanish regions with African dances and Indian dances that the Gypsies brought to our country. <\/span> <\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What Did each Culture Contribute to the History of Flamenco? <\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to historian Jose Luis Navarro Garc\u00eda, author of the book \u201c\u201d<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">History of Flamenco Dance<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2008), <\/span><b>Andalusian culture gifted flamenco its characteristic grace, mischief, elegance, and freshness<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, while the Gypsy ethnicity provided it with that unique temperament and grit that we don&#8217;t find in any other musical genre. <\/span> <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the other hand, African culture enhanced it with that air of sensuality that female dancers exude on stage (although this may also come from the classical dances of Hindu culture). <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rise, Decline, and a Great Rebirth<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><b>For much of the 20th century, flamenco was a highly valued art in our country by people of all social classes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, bringing together masses who wished to experience it. <\/span> <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, in the last decades of the past century, flamenco experienced a notable \u201cdecline\u201d mainly due to its association with an atavistic Spain that people wanted to leave behind, as it clashed with the idea of modernity of the time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fortunately, in recent years, this has changed greatly thanks to renowned artists like Camar\u00f3n or the emergence of fusion flamenco.
