Francisco Sanchez Gomez, better known as Paco de Luc\u00eda (Algeciras, 1947-2014) is considered the best flamenco guitarist of all time. He was a unique and unrepeatable musician and composer, a true virtuoso of the guitar, who left us great pieces like ‘Entre dos aguas’. He has shared the stage with great artists such as Camar\u00f3n, Carlos Santana, Tomatito, and John McLaughlin. He is considered responsible for spreading flamenco art internationally, thanks to its fusion with new rhythms such as jazz, bossa nova, and classical music. <\/p>\n
Pepe Habichuela (Granada, 1944) is the stage name of Jos\u00e9 Antonio Carmona Carmona, a highly talented Spanish flamenco guitarist of gypsy origin with refined technique. He belongs to a flamenco dynasty that began with his grandfather, known as Habichuela el Viejo, passing through his father T\u00edo Jos\u00e9 Habichuela, his brothers, and continues today with his son Josemi Carmona and his nephews, members of the musical group Ketama. A family of artists who carry flamenco in their blood. <\/p>\n
Pepe Habichuela has collaborated with such renowned figures as Juanito Valderrama, Camar\u00f3n de la Isla, and Enrique Morente. The albums he recorded with the latter artist, ‘Homenaje a D. Antonio Chac\u00f3n’ and ‘Despegando’ are considered classics of flamenco and essential for those who want to get into this type of music. Among his awards, the \u201cGold Medal of Merit in Fine Arts\u201d in 2018 stands out. <\/p>\n
Tomatito is another great master of the Spanish guitar. His real name is Jos\u00e9 Fernandez Torres (Almer\u00eda, 1958) and he comes from another gypsy dynasty of flamenco artists. He learned to play the guitar from his father, known as \u201cTomate\u201d, and his grandfather \u201cMiguel Tomate\u201d. His artistic career began in 1970 when he moved to M\u00e1laga, performed in tablaos, and met Camar\u00f3n de la Isla. In fact, on Camar\u00f3n’s album ‘La leyenda del Tiempo’, the guitar playing belongs to Tomatito. Other artists he has shared the stage with include Diego el Cigala and Enrique Morente. Tomatito is one of the great \u201ctocaores\u201d of his generation. <\/p>\n
Vicente Amigo Girol (Guadalcanal, Seville, 1967) is one of the best Spanish flamenco guitarists. He plays the guitar with great virtuosity. At the age of 8, he already started learning to play the guitar when he was given his first one from his collection. El Tomate and Manolo Sanlucar were some of his teachers. This musician has released eight solo albums, but he has also published others with prestigious artists such as Jos\u00e9 Merc\u00e9, ‘Del Amanecer’, an album composed and played on guitar by Vicente Amigo. <\/p>\n
Vicente Amigo has been awarded the Best Flamenco Author and Best Flamenco Composer prizes, granted by AIE and SGAE, in 1999.<\/p>\n
Manuel Serrap\u00ed S\u00e1nchez (Seville, 1904-1972), better known as Ni\u00f1o Ricardo, was a famous Spanish guitarist, currently considered the precursor of contemporary flamenco playing. He created his own style and new playing techniques, breaking away from the canons and revolutionizing the guitar with his own compositions. At 14, he began performing in flamenco tablaos, where he would meet great singers whom he would later accompany on their tours throughout Spain and other countries.<\/p>\n
He was also a teacher to many renowned flamenco guitarists such as Paco de Luc\u00eda, Enrique de Melchor, among others.<\/p>\n
Another great artist is Diego del Morao (Jerez de la Frontera, 1978), who is part of the renowned lineage of guitarists Los Morao. He is one of the best current flamenco guitarists. He learned to play the guitar at El Carbonero’s school. He has recorded various albums playing the guitar. Manuel Mu\u00f1oz Alc\u00f3n, better known as Manolo Sanlucar (Sanl\u00facar de Barrameda, 1943-2022) was a Spanish guitarist and composer. He also worked as a professor sharing his instrumental knowledge through courses at the Men\u00e9ndez y Pelayo University in Seville. This artist lived surrounded by flamenco from a very young age, as his father was a music lover and took him to Jerez de la Frontera to learn to play. At only 8 years old, he was already performing in musical events, village festivals, and even radio programs. He became so popular that at 13, Pepe Pinto, a flamenco singer, sought him out and proposed that he be part of Pepe Marchena’s show, another famous artist. <\/p>\n
He has received several recognitions throughout his artistic career: Gold Medal of Merit in Fine Arts in 2015, Favorite Son of the Province of C\u00e1diz in 2016, and International Flamenco Award in 2021.<\/p>\n
Daniel Casares (Estepona, 1980) is the youngest guitarist and composer on this list of prestigious flamenco artists. At his young age, he already has 8 solo albums recorded: ‘Duende Flamenco’, ‘La Madrug\u00e1’, ‘Coraz\u00f3n de tu alma’, ‘Caballero’, ‘El Ladr\u00f3n del Agua’, ‘Picassares’, ‘La luna de Alejandra’, which includes his interpretation of the Concierto de Aranjuez (with the M\u00e1laga Philharmonic Orchestra) and his latest album ‘Guitarr\u00edsimo’.
\nHe has played accompanying great singers such as Pitingo, Chucho Vald\u00e9s, Miguel Poveda, and Alejandro Sanz. He also composed the music for the Spanish film ‘El Disc\u00edpulo’. <\/p>\n
Casares has received various awards: winner of the First National Guitar Competition in Ja\u00e9n, best artist of the year 2000 by Thomson Music, Ace Award from the Association of Entertainment Chroniclers of New York in 2004.<\/p>\n
